The Kansas City Royals won their 5th straight game last night. They defeated the Florida Marlins 7-6 to improve their record to 20-21.
Jose Guillen got the Royals started with a 2-run single in the 1st. KC scored 2 more in the 4th thanks to some bad defense by Florida.
The Royals took a 4-2 lead into the 8th. Then Miguel Oliva extended the lead with a 2-run homer. It was his 5th of the year. The Marlins scored 2 in the bottom of the 8th to make it 6-4. Alex Gordon drove in a run in the top of the 9th to make it a 7-4 lead for the Royals.
Joakim Soria came in from the bullpen in a save opportunity. He had a 16 2/3 scoreless inning streak going before he gave up a 2-run homer. He settled down to record the final 2 outs and get the save which was his 11th of the year. Brett Tomko earned the win for KC. He went 6 innings giving up 2 runs.
