KU beats Xavier 85-72 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Danny Manning had 24 points and 12 rebounds. Milt Newton had 21 points and 12 boards. Chris Piper had 9 points, 9 boards and 7 assists.

#5 KU beats #21 Western Kentucky 75-70 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Sean Pearson scored 17. Jerod Haase scored 14. Scot Pollard had 12 points and 11 boards. Jacque Vaughn had 10 points and 9 assists.

#12 KU beats #16 Syracuse 87-58 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. KU is 26-6. Drew Gooden had 17 points and 15 rebounds. Jeff Boschee scored 16. Kenny Gregory had 15 points and 9 boards.
