The #1 seed Kansas Jayhawks had very little trouble with #12 Villanova Friday night. The Jayhawks opened the game with a 26-10 run. Villanova made a slight run to cut the lead down to 7 a few minutes later. Then KU finished the half with a 13-1 run. The game was over after that as KU led 41-22. The Jayhawks cruised in the second half to earn a 72-57 victory.
KU had 19 fast break points compared to just 2 for Villanova. KU outshot Villanova 53% to 35%.
KU is now 34-3 on the season. The 34 wins ties them for third best all-time in single season wins. The last KU team to win 34 was the '96-'97 team.
Brandon Rush had 16 points, 4 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block. Russell Robinson had 15 points, 5 assists, 3 boards and 1 steal. Mario Chalmers had 14 points, 4 assists, 3 boards and 3 steals. Sasha Kaun had 9 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.
KU will face Davidson on Sunday with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
