The Kansas Jayhawks improved to 5-0 with a 30-24 upset over #24 Kansas State in Manhattan. I don't even know the last time KU started 5-0. This is very exciting considering they usually have a very weak football team. Their record in road games has been horrible.
KU started rough. They turned the ball over on their first play from scrimmage. KSU struck first with a long TD pass. They led 7-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.
KU got back in the game thanks to a 20-yard TD run by Jake Sharp. A rushing TD by the Wildcats made the score 14-7. The Jayhawks were able to tie the score right before the half. Todd Reesing threw a 5-yard TD pass to Aqib Talib with 11 seconds left. It was a 14-14 game at the half.
Kansas took their first lead in the 3rd quarter. Todd Reesing connected with Dezmon Briscoe for a 28-yard score. That put KU on top 21-14. KSU kicked a field goal to make the score 21-17 at the end of the 3rd.
The Wildcats regained the lead with 7:32 to play. A 5-yard TD catch put KSU up 24-21. KU came right back. Dexton Fields caught a 30-yard TD pass to put KU back on top. KU botched the extra point so the score was 27-24 with 6:27 to play.
There was still plenty of time for KSU to mount a comeback. However, KU picked off a pass which led to a field goal. That made the score 30-24 in favor of KU. The Jayhawks intercepted another pass to end KSU's chance for victory.
Todd Reesing finished the game with 267 yards, 3 TDs and 3 interceptions.
Brandon McAnderson led KU in rushing with 81 yards. Jake sharp added 77 yards on the ground. KU dominated the ground game 170-53 overall.
Dexton Fields was the leading receiver with 6 catches for 78 yards.
